Testing

I was speaking with my son who is dealing with some challenging health issues.  How do we meet what comes?  How do we see this world that Trump and cronies are turning upside down?  Life is a series of tests, and we test our response.

And now the days are shorter.  This morning, I see stars shining in the sky, beacons prompting us to look within, and bring forth our own light in the dark.

Tomorrow is a huge day, No King’s Day.  Today, a friend and I are making signs for the protest though I’ll be at my grandson’s birthday party, where snakes are coming to be viewed and held. Snakes aren’t slimy; they are our friends.

I’m with the Oscar Wilde quote: I think God, in creating man, somewhat overestimated his ability.

Let’s prove Oscar Wilde wrong as the country unites in connecting us all as constellations in the sky.

The Stone Whisperer

Today is our usual summer mix of sun and fog. We’re re-doing our garden, keeping the plants, but adding new soil, updating the irrigation system, and replacing rotting posts with stone. Yesterday, it wasn’t until evening that I saw stones had been placed. Today I saw the man who does the work alone.

Birthing the Light

It’s the first day of the last month of the year.  I open my Advent Calendar as I listen to the wind and rain.

Yesterday I was at the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon attending the ordination ceremony for a friend becoming a Zen priest.  It was an interesting juxtaposition as the ancient ceremony was shown on Zoom so on one side of the altar was a huge screen and on the other a nativity scene.  In the middle was the ceremony with rituals handed down for centuries.

Behind the altar is a view of the bay and through the ceremony the sky moved from light to dark, from seeing outside to seeing the reflection of what was happening within.

This is a sacred time of year no matter what our beliefs, a time to light candles and swell in trust that dark turns to light and all revolves as One.
